In or out of the EU, this year LET’S DO IT AND LET’S TAKE ACTION for our biodiversity and our health and well-being!
The UK is part of the Convention on Biological Diversity, which set out in 2010 a strategic plan for biodiversity from 2011 to 2020. The plan provided an overarching framework on biodiversity, including a target that by 2020, significantly more people will be engaged in biodiversity issues, aware of its values and taking positive action in the UK (target 1 outcome 4). https://www.cbd.int/countries/targets/?country=gb
But in March 2019 a national report revealed that the UK was not raising public awareness of the importance of biodiversity. https://jncc.gov.uk/our-work/united-kingdom-s-6th-national-report-to-the-convention-on-biological-diversity/
Additionally, in their 25-Year Environment Plan (updated in May 2019) the UK government highlighted the importance and need of connecting people with the environment to improve health and wellbeing. https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/25-year-environment-plan
So together let’s make it happen! We will launch our first biodiversity and environmental education programme in SEPTEMBER 2020 in Norwich and Bury St Edmunds. The British Naturalists’ Association BNA South Yorkshire are with us in this initiative. So put it in your calendar!
Happy Sunday to all of you. #BEES
